WASHINGTON: In a major expansion and deepening of the ties between the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, the three nations have formed a new joint-security agreement, one that includes giving, for the first time, nuclear-powered submarine technology to Australia. The agreement, which could potentially alter the future strategic balance in the Pacific, is expected to scrap a current high-dollar Australian submarine purchase from France.
